Stress and Well Being in the Legal Profession 
Beth Eckhardt PhD, LCSW, Director of LAP and Jon Michael Probstein, Esq.
(1 CLE Ethics and Professionalism Credit)

Dr. Elizabeth Eckhardt will discuss why Lawyers suffer from substance use and mental health issues more than other professionals, what to look for, and when to reach out for assistance. She will also discuss the role that Covid has played in the well-being of attorneys and provide tips to manage stress and increase wellness.

Jon Michael Probstein, Esq. will tell the story of an attorney’s struggle from mental health and substance abuse to recovery and wellness.

Elizabeth Eckhardt, LCSW,PhD
As Director of the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP), Dr. Elizabeth Eckhardt provides professional, confidential counseling services to lawyers, judges, law students and their families who are struggling with mental health and substance use issues. In addition, Dr. Eckhardt conducts evaluations and makes treatment referrals. The Lawyer Assistance Program provides early identification, peer support, stress management, treatment referrals and Monitoring services. LAP also conducts presentations and workshops at law firms and law schools regarding substance use and mental health, suicide prevention, time management, stress management and wellness. Dr. Eckhardt also has a private psychotherapy practice where she sees individuals, couples and families.

Jon Michael Probstein, Esq.
A graduate of Syracuse University and St. John's University School of Law, Jon was an Editor of the St. John's Law Review. After working at several firms in Manhattan he eventually opened his own firm in New York and Los Angeles. Since 2002, Jon has been living and practicing in Long Island concentrating in real estate, guardianship, matrimonial and family law, corporate law and litigation. He is also an arbitrator and mediator, a member of the ABA, NYSBA and NCBA, and the recipient of the 2015 Thomas Maligno Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award.

Joseph F. Sensale, Esq., Partner, The Chase Sensale Law Group, L.L.P.

A discussion of development of legal precedent to the successful established of a claim for COVID-19, the current standard recognized by the WCB, and, facts and circumstances surrounding claims that have been successfully and unsuccessfully prosecuted.  The impact of the current political atmosphere in New York and elsewhere in the U.S. on the prosecution of such claims will also be discussed. 

Joseph F. Sensale, Esq.
Joseph F. Sensale, Esq. , ("Joe") received his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law in 2000. Joe is a partner with The Chase Sensale Law Group, L.L.P., which concentrates its practice in matters pending before the State of New York Workers' Compensation Board, the Social Security Administration, the State of New York Retirement Disability Board, the State of New York Unemployment Insurance Appeal Board, the New York Court of Claims, and, the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Third Department. Joe was admitted to practice in New York in 2001.  Joe previously served as the co-chair of the Workers' Compensation and Social Security Disability committee at the Suffolk County Bar Association, and as the Treasurer of the New York Workers’ Compensation Alliance (WCA), and continues to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the WCA and the Injured Workers’ Bar Association (IWBA). Joe has conducted continuing legal education seminars in the field of workers' compensation before members of the legal community throughout New York State.  An active parishoner at St. Mary Gate of Heaven Roman Catholic Church, is an accomplished musician and lyricist, and rescues and supports stray and abandoned animals.
