4:00pm - 4:50pm PROTECTION OF INJURED WORKERS UNDER NYS HUMAN RIGHTS LAW José M. Grajales, Esq. (1 CLE Credits) Injured workers are pressured to return to work as soon as possible, often while they are still recovering from their job-related injuries. This presentation will cover the protection that the Human Rights Law affords injured workers when they seek reinstatement or re-employment, and will also cover the barriers that injured workers face when attempting to attach to the labor market. This presentation will sensitize the worker’s compensation practitioner to situations when their disabled clients are excluded from employment in a discriminatory manner and the need to refer those clients to civil rights agencies or to attorneys that handle employment discrimination matters.
José M. Grajales, Esq. is a partner with Gabriel, Grajales and Moroff, PLLC. He is an experienced Workers’ Compensation attorney who has practiced for over 15 years. He has previously worked as an equal employment officer of a large hospital network with over 9,000 employees. He has also worked as Human Rights Specialist at the NYS Division of Human Rights. Mr. Grajales received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fordham University, double majoring in Political Science and Philosophy. He graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University.
