PROTECT INJUREDWORKERS IN NEW YORK
 |
|
Working New Yorkers are the backbone of New York's economy.
New York was the first state to adopt workers’ compensation and was once a national leader in protecting the rights and interests of workers injured on the job.
Today the New York workers’ compensation system is broken.

Access to Justice Campaign!
This is why we started the Access to Justice Campaign - to increase awareness and influence public perception/opinion. Slowly, but surely, we are making headway in gaining public support for our causes. Thank you to every single member who has donated time and/or money to the campaign. We could not do this without your support!
The Center for New York City Affairs at The New School has released reports outlining the shocking inadequacy of benefits for New York workers who are injured at work, and is an excellent source of information and research related to our work. Visit their website for more information:

A message from William Turley, President of the IWBA
Since 1997, the IWBA and its members have fought tirelessly to protect the interests of New York’s injured veterans of industry, and over the past several years, our members’ ability to communicate, inform, and educate each other has grown significantly. The IWBA continues to make efforts to create a positive working relationship with the state Legislature and regulatory agencies thus permitting our organization to be part of the dialogue on future legal issues.
This is proving to be one of the more difficult times for New York’s injured workers, and for their counsel, than can be recalled in recent history. It is critical that the IWBA remain strong, and its members active in 2020, so if you are not currently a member, join us today. The benefits of IWBA membership will only continue to grow, including the excellent continuing education and networking opportunities offered through the IWBA. While our in person events have been postponed in 2020, we will continue to update our Upcoming CLE page with information on our plans. We are planning on our normal schedule of all three of our conferences in New York City in January, Buffalo in April, and Saratoga in September of 2020!
In the interest of reducing the possible impact of COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we will be operating remotely until further notice. Due to our remote work solutions, we can confidently provide our members continued service without disruption. Our focus, dedication, and support are unwavering as we navigate this unique time. We hope you, your family, and colleagues remain safe and healthy.
COVID-19 IN THE WORKPLACE
The Covid-19 Virus has presented an extraordinary challenge for the working people of New York. Especially hard hit are those who provide essential services; healthcare workers, transportation workers, retail grocery workers, couriers and emergency service personnel, just to name a few,
If you believe that you have contracted the Covid-19 virus at work or as a result of your work activity, you may be entitled to lost wage benefits and full medical care for your illness. There are three important steps you must follow to be considered for these valuable benefits.
(1) SEEK MEDICAL CARE IMMEDIATELY at a hospital emergency room, walk-in medical center, or from your primary care physician. Be sure to tell your healthcare provider about the type of work
you do as well as how and when you became ill.
(2)NOTIFY YOUR EMPLOYER ABOUT YOUR ILLNESS. As soon as possible, notify your supervisor, manager or anyone in authority at your workplace that you have become sick with the virus. Under
New York State Law you have 30 days to formally notify your employer of your illness.
(3)FILE A FORM C-3, EMPLOYEES CLAIM FOR INJURY. This form can be obtained on the New York State Workers' Compensation Board website: www.wcb.ny.gov. You can submit your claim
electronically(online), by fax or by regular mail. Under New York State Law you have 2 years from the date you knew or should have known that your illness was work related to file your claim.
